CLEVELAND, Ohio – Duke freshman fencer Joseph Lam tied for third place in the Junior Men’s Foil division at the North American Cup Saturday.

Lam went 5-1 in the first round of pool play and then defeated his next four opponents in the second round. Fellow freshman foil Ethan Yu claimed a tie for 54th place out of 174 entries in the event.

Lam and Yu were two of seven Duke fencers competing in the event. The men’s epee trio of seniors Dylan Nollner and Alessio Santoro and sophomore Ted Cho competed together in the Senior Team Men’s Epee and placed 12th out of 26 entries. Those three guided the Duke men’s epee squad to a 16-8 record in 2013.
