DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke fencing team will compete in its final meet of the regular season this Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Temple Duals in Philadelphia, Pa.

The Blue Devil men enter the meet with a 19-6 record, while the women come in at 16-10. Both squads posted 4-1 records at the Duke Home Meet on Feb. 8-9 and return to action after an off weekend.

Joining Duke and host Temple at the duals will be men’s and women’s squads from Penn, Penn State, Princeton and St. John’s. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at McGonigle Hall and will be Duke’s final event before NCAA Regionals on Saturday, March 8 in Lafayette College, Pa.

Results from the Temple Duals will be available at the following link:

Leading the charge for the Duke men (19-6) will be freshman saber Christopher Monti, who leads the squad with a 56-17 record. Monti has double-digit victories in three consecutive meets and is one of two sabers with 50-plus wins, followed by sophomore teammate Charles Copti who boasts a 52-15 record.  Copti owns a team-leading .776 winning percentage on the year.

Heading the epee squad are seniors Alessio Santoro (46-19) and Dylan Nollner (30-10), who have combined for a .724 winning percentage in 2014. Santoro is in the midst of a breakout senior season, building on a junior campaign in which he went 30-10 after not having fenced in a bout over his first two seasons. Nollner, meanwhile, is gunning for his fourth straight NCAA bid after earning All-America honors and a fifth-place finish in 2013.

The men’s foils have also benefited from an infusion of freshmen, including newcomer Joseph Lam who leads the group with a 41-24 record. Alexander Szilagyi has also contributed 21 bouts in his first season to bolster the veteran core of Chris Sullivan (33-16), Rod Shayesteh (23-17) and Ethan Yu (15-3).

The Duke women’s foil and epee squads are also led by a pair of freshmen, as Julia Lee has amassed a team-leading 56-18 record with the foils and Isabella Barna fronts the epees with a 51-26 mark. Lee, who is a combined 38-9 over her past two meets, owns the second-best winning percentage on the team (.757), and teams with Anisha Mukherjee (44-31) and Samantha Lee (42-33) to form a dominant foil tandem.

Barna’s .662 winning percentage is the second best on the epee squad behind only junior captain Sarah Collins, who rejoined the team for the Northwestern Duals and has compiled a 39-8 (.830) record since returning to the team. Those two and freshman Rita Somogyi (47-30) have played a major role in leading the Duke women to a 16-10 record.

Senior Kodia Baye-Cigna is tops on the saber squad with a 43-24 record and is closing in on her 175th career victory. Baye-Cigna, who is also on the verge of eclipsing 50 wins for the third straight season, boasts a career record of 173-76.
