DURHAM, N.C. – The seventh-ranked Duke field hockey team will put its five-match win streak on the line Friday, Oct. 11 when it hosts No. 3 Syracuse in a 6 p.m. tilt at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. The two teams will face off for the first time in program history after the Orange joined the ACC earlier this year. Friday night’s contest will be streamed live on GoDuke.com Inside Access, while fans in attendance can celebrate Youth Field Hockey Day with free pizza and post-game autographs.

Syracuse Series History
The Blue Devils and Syracuse will meet for the first time Friday in Durham … Syracuse joined the ACC from the Big East before the start of the 2013 season … Duke is 40-31-3 all-time against Big East schools.

Duke (10-2, 2-0 ACC) edged California by a 2-1 score in double overtime Friday, Oct. 4 after graduate student Cherry Seaborn knocked in the gamewinner in the 94th minute … The Blue Devils returned to the field Sunday, Oct. 6 to down then-No. 14 Wake Forest 3-1 in ACC play … Sophomore Aileen Johnson, junior Jessica Buttinger and senior Emmie Le Marchand all scored in that contest with Le Marchand also adding an assist.
Blazing Anchors Duke in Goal
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Blazing leads the ACC and ranks second in the country in save percentage with a .821 clip through 12 games … She has compiled a 1.09 goals against average in addition to guiding the defense to three shutouts … The Durham, N.C., native was named the ACC Player of the Week and the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week following a career-high 22-save performance in a 3-2 shootout win over previously top-ranked and unbeaten North Carolina Sept. 27.
Balanced Scoring by Blue Devil Offense
Twelve different Duke players have tallied a point through 12 games this fall … Ten different Blue Devils have registered a goal, led by senior Emmie Le Marchand with seven … Le Marchand paces the squad with 20 points … Junior midfielder Abby Beltrani has totaled a career-best seven assists to tie for seventh in the ACC in assists per game … Five different players scored in Duke’s 6-0 win over Radford Sept. 22.
Duke Defense Among Best in ACC
Anchored by Lauren Blazing in goal and seniors Paula Heimbach and Brenna Rescigno and sophomore Amanda Kim on the back line, the Blue Devil defense is allowing just 1.25 goals per game to tie for third in the ACC … The unit has posted three shutouts this season, holding Indiana (Aug. 30), Old Dominion (Sept. 15) and Radford (Sept. 22) scoreless.
Le Marchand Moving Up Career Charts
After topping the 100-point mark for her career earlier this season, senior forward Emmie Le Marchand continues to etch her name into the program record books … With 111 points for her career, the Worcester, England product currently sits ninth overall in school history … Le Marchand also ranks eighth all-time in career goals (45) and is tied for 17th in career assists (21).
Blue Devils Continue to Attack Cage
Duke totaled 35 shots in a 3-2 double overtime victory over Rutgers Sept. 8, topping the 30-shot mark for the first time since the program posted 30 shots in an 11-2 victory over Kent State Sept. 30, 2012 … The Blue Devils followed up that showing with a 37-shot performance against Radford (Sept. 22) … Head coach Pam Bustin’s squad has tallied at least 10 shots in every contest this season.
ACC Well-Represented in NFHCA Coaches Poll
The ACC continues to dominate the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, placing six schools within the top 10 … The Blue Devils remained at No. 7 in the poll after going 2-0 last weekend … Maryland maintains the top spot in this week’s poll and North Carolina moved up to No. 2 … Syracuse (3), Virginia (5) and Boston College (6) are also within the top 10.
