DURHAM, N.C. – Eighth-ranked Duke (10-3, 2-1 ACC) resumes play this weekend against a pair of ranked opponents, traveling to Charlottesville, Va., to face No. 6 Virginia Friday, Oct. 18 before hosting No. 13 Stanford Sunday, Oct. 20.

Virginia Series History
Duke and the Cavaliers will square off for the 47th time in program history Friday evening in Charlottesville … Virginia leads the all-time series, 30-16, and has won eight of the last nine meetings between the two ACC schools … The Blue Devils are 4-14 when facing the Cavaliers in Charlottesville … Last year’s contest saw Virginia collect a 3-1 victory in Durham Oct. 27.

Duke vs. the ACC
The Blue Devils are 80-166-4 all-time against teams in their own conference … The squad kicked off ACC play Sept. 27 with a thrilling 3-2 overtime shootout victory over previously top-ranked and unbeaten North Carolina before topping Wake Forest, 3-1, and falling to Syracuse in double overtime, 2-1.  

Scouting the Cavaliers
Sixth-ranked Virginia enters Friday night’s conference matchup with an overall record of 14-3, including a 2-2 mark in ACC action … Last weekend saw the team earn a double overtime victory over Boston College before dropping a 2-1 decision to William & Mary … The Cavaliers currently rank second in the nation in defensive saves with 11 on the fall and lead the ACC in penalty corners per game (7.53) and shots per game (19.24) … Senior forward Elly Buckley is atop the conference statistics in points (40), goals (17) and defensive saves (4) … Goalkeeper Jenny Johnstone owns six shutouts in 17 games and has recorded a 1.14 goals against average and a .775 save percentage.

Stanford Series History
Duke has won all three of its previous matchups against the Cardinal, with the most recent meeting coming in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament … The Blue Devils won that neutral-site contest, 5-0 … Senior Emmie Le Marchand led the way in that game, tallying three goals, while redshirt senior Devon Gagliardi added one goal and one assist.

Duke vs. the NorPac
The Blue Devils own a commanding 87-10-3 record historically against teams in the NorPac Conference … Duke is 3-0 against NorPac teams this season with wins over Radford, Longwood and California.

Scouting the Cardinal
No. 13 Stanford is 10-3 on the season and 1-1 in NorPac play heading into a Friday night contest against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem … The squad has registered six shutouts this fall to tie for second in the country at 0.46 shutouts per game … In goal, Dulcie Davis sports an .812 save percentage to rank ninth nationally … She also has compiled a 0.97 goals against average … Hope Burke paces the Cardinal offense with 18 points on seven goals and four assists.

Last Time Out
Duke (10-3, 2-1 ACC) battled then-No. 3 Syracuse to a 1-1 tie through the end of regulation but fell in double overtime, 2-1, Oct. 11 in Durham … The loss was the Blue Devils’ first of the year in overtime and in conference action … Sophomore Hannah Barreca had the lone goal for Duke with senior Emmie Le Marchand and junior Abby Beltrani assisting on a penalty corner play … Senior defender Paula Heimbach notched the team’s first defensive save of the season in the second half.

Blazing Tops Nation in Save Percentage
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper and Durham, N.C., product Lauren Blazing leads all Division I goalkeepers in save percentage with a .832 clip through 13 games … She has compiled a 1.12 goals against average in addition to guiding the defense to three shutouts … The Durham, N.C., native was named the ACC Player of the Week and the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week following a career-high 22-save performance in a 3-2 shootout win over previously top-ranked and unbeaten North Carolina Sept. 27.

Balanced Scoring by Blue Devil Offense
Twelve different Duke players have tallied a point through 12 games this fall … Ten different Blue Devils have registered a goal, led by senior Emmie Le Marchand with seven … Le Marchand paces the squad with 21 points … Junior midfielder Abby Beltrani has totaled a career-best eight assists to tie for fifth in the ACC in assists per game … Five different players scored in Duke’s 6-0 win over Radford Sept. 22.

Heimbach Anchors Back Line
Senior defender Paula Heimbach continues to be one of the Blue Devils’ most dependable backs in 2013 … An All-ACC honoree and Longstreth/NFHCA third team All-America selection last fall, Heimbach was tabbed to the Preseason All-ACC squad last month by a vote of the league’s seven head coaches … She tallied the Blue Devils’ first defensive save of the year against Syracuse Oct. 11 … Heimbach and the Duke defense own three shutouts on the year and currently allow just 1.16 goals per game to rank second in the ACC.

Le Marchand Moving Up Career Charts
After topping the 100-point mark for her career earlier this season, senior forward Emmie Le Marchand continues to etch her name into the program record books … With 112 points for her career, the Worcester, England product currently sits ninth overall in school history … Le Marchand also ranks eighth all-time in career goals (45) and 17th in career assists (22).

ACC Well-Represented in NFHCA Coaches Poll
The ACC continues to dominate the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, placing six schools within the top eight … The Blue Devils fell one spot to No. 8 in the poll this week following last weekend’s double overtime loss to Syracuse … Maryland maintains the top spot in this week’s poll while  North Carolina dropped to No. 3 … Syracuse (4), Virginia (6) and Boston College (7) are also within the top 10.

Promotions Sunday vs. Stanford
Sunday will mark the Blue Devils’ Think Pink Game, with pink ribbons available for fans at the marketing table, located at the entrance to Jack Katz Stadium … Fans in attendance are also encouraged to wear pink to the game.
