DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Cherry Seaborn to learn more about the Suffolk, England, native.
GoDuke.com: What are three of your favorite things about being a student-athlete here at Duke?
Cherry Seaborn: The support both academically and athletically is incredible. All the coaches want every student to succeed both on and off the field and to have that support. I’ve never even experienced that before, and that’s incredible. The athlete community is really tight between players and sports – everyone knows what’s going on and it’s such a rich community to be a part of. For me, coming over from England, just the facilities and the whole experience is something that I’ve never experienced before. It’s incredible – the facilities are amazing and I have to pinch myself, like I can’t believe I’m here!
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite on-the-field memory?
CS: Definitely [the win over] UNC. For me, I’m not that aware of the rivalry, because I’ve only been here for a few months. But to play in a game that meant so much to the team, for me, like I love this team, and to make them so happy and be a part of that was amazing.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite off-the-field memory?
CS: Quite a few…there have been so many! Actually, the talk we had right before the tournament was inspiring and obviously got us all so pumped, so that was something really nice to do as a team and something I personally benefitted from and I think everyone else did as well.
GoDuke.com: What are some of your favorite things about the sport of hockey?
CS: I’m a massive team player. I don’t really do it for myself, like the thing I like the most is being a part of something that’s bigger than just you and that you can give something that makes other people happy and makes other people succeed. We call each other sisters and stuff, and to be a part of that is nice, to have another aspect of your life where you’ve got family outside of whatever else is going on in your life. You’ve got your hockey family, and that’s what I love about the team aspect, I always have.
GoDuke.com: What are three foods you can’t live without?
CS: Avocados, definitely. I’m a big fan of crisps…I know you guys call them chips! And probably roast beef.
