GLASGOW, Scotland – Former Duke standout Stefanie Fee and the U.S. women’s national field hockey team opened action at the 2014 Women’s Hockey Champions Challenge in convincing fashion Sunday, Apr. 27 at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

Team USA dispatched its first opponent, Spain, by a score of 3-1. The U.S. squad took a 1-0 lead just before the end of the first half and added two more tallies to one by Spain in the second period. In addition, the team’s held Spain to just two penalty corners for the duration of the contest.

“Today's match was very pleasing,” said head coach Craig Parnham. "The team showed some very nice spells of hockey. There's some work we're going to look at but as a whole we’re looking forward to the rest of the tournament.”

The Champions Challenge serves as the qualifier for the 2016 Women’s Hockey Champions Trophy, which will be held in June, 2016 in London.

Fee and Team USA continue tournament play Monday, Apr. 27 in a 9 a.m. local time match against South Africa.
