DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke field hockey program will take part in one final exhibition contest Sunday, Aug. 24 before opening the season five days later at Michigan State. The Blue Devils are set to welcome fellow ACC opponent North Carolina to Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m.
Duke is coming off of an exhibition outing against Davidson last Sunday in which seven different Blue Devils recorded goals. The squad also excelled in shootout play at the end of the contest, with redshirt junior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing going unscored upon in two rounds.
Under the direction of 2013 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) South Region Coach of the Year Pam Bustin, Duke returns 13 letterwinners and six starters from last year’s team, which compiled a 17-7 ledger and finished the national runners-up. The Blue Devils’ returners include Blazing, a third team All-American a year ago, as well as All-South Region selections Amanda Kim and Aileen Johnson.
Duke will play eight contests at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium this fall, in addition to hosting the ACC Championship for the first time since 2008. The squad will be in pursuit of the program’s third NCAA Tournament appearance under the guidance of Bustin and her staff.
