DURHAM, N.C. – Duke junior defender Rhian Jones has been named to the 2010 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-America team as announced by the organization Monday, Nov. 21. Jones earned a nod on the second team after garnering third team accolades following the 2009 season.
A native of Havertown, Pa., Jones was instrumental to a Blue Devil defense that allowed opponents an average of 1.36 goals per game in 2010. She started every game on the Duke backline this past year, while also chipping in a goal and two assists. The Duke junior also earned All-South Region and All-ACC honors for her efforts.
With the honor, Jones becomes just the ninth Duke field hockey student-athlete to earn multiple All-America accolades in her career, joining Melissa Panasci, Courtney Sommer, Katie Grant, Nicole Dudek, Hilary Linton, Laura Suckoski,and in that distinction.
The Blue Devils finished the 2010 season with an 8-11 overall record (0-5 ACC), falling by a narrow, one-goal margin to third-ranked Virginia in the ACC Tournament to close out the year.
