No. 6 Duke, the 10th seed in the tournament, will take on seventh-seeded Stanford Saturday at 2 p.m. in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament Saturday, Nov. 12. The winner will advance to the second round on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m., facing the winner of Ohio State and host-team Old Dominion.
Scouting the Blue Devils
Duke, ranked sixth in the latest NFHCA National Coaches Poll and eighth in the latest RPI rankings, enters the Saturday's match with a 13-7 overall record ... The Blue Devils have won six of their last eight games entering the NCAA Tournament ... The Duke offense is led by sophomore All-ACC selection Emmie Le Marchand with 16 goals and seven assists ... Freshman Jessica Buttinger leads all Duke rookies with seven goals and two assists, while senior Tara Jennings (6g, 4a) and juniors Devon Gagliardi (8g, 4a) and Mary Nielsen (5g, 4a) have all reached double figure point totals for the season ... Stanford holds the No. 10 spot in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll and sits at seventh in the RPI rankings after compling a 17-3 (6-0 NorPac) record this season ... The Cardinal won seven straight games prior to suffering a 1-0 defeat to California in the NorPac championship game in its last outing ... Stanford's offense is led by NorPac Co-Player of the Year Becky Dru with 16 goals and seven assists this season ... Hope Burke ranks second on the team with 28 points on eight goals and 12 assists, followed closely by Stephanie Byrne with 24 points on four goals and 16 assists ... Ale Moss has played in every game in goal for the Cardinal, sporting a 1.45 goals against average and a .701 save percentage this season.
Stanford Series History
Saturday's match will mark the third meeting between Duke and Stanford ... The two teams last met on Sept. 11, 1994 in Durham with the Blue Devils capturing a 3-0 victory over the Cardinal ... Duke and Stanford faced each other for the first time on Oct. 17, 1993 ... The Blue Devils won the inaugural meeting 2-1.

Duke will make its 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament this season after earning an at-large bid ... The Blue Devils are 14-10 all-time in the NCAA Tournament ... 2011 marks Duke's first trip to the tournament since 2008 ... Duke earned seven consecutive bids from 2002-08 ... Duke advanced to the finals of the ACC Championship for the third time (1990, 2003, 2011) in program history in 2011 ... The Blue Devils knocked off Virginia 3-2 in the first round before dispatching No. 3 Maryland 2-1 in the semifinals ... Duke fell 2-1 in the championship game to No. 1 and top-seeded North Carolina.

Duke boasts one of the top defenses in the country, allowing opponents just 26 goals in 20 games this season ... Redshirt senior Samantha Nelson has started every game in goal for the Blue Devils this season ... Nelson ranks eighth nationally in goals against average (1.27) ... She has also posted the second-best save percentage in the ACC (.711) ... Nelson has five shutouts this year, bringing her career total to 17 shutouts ... In the Duke record books, Nelson ranks second in career goals against average (1.58) and tied for fourth in career saves (258) ... Should Nelson maintain her current 2011 goals against average (1.25), she would rank second in the Duke single season record books for that category.
vs. Ranked Opponents
Twelve of the Blue Devils' 20 games this season have been against opponents ranked in the top-20 of the NFHCA Coaches Poll ... Duke is 7-5 this season when facing ranked opposition ... The Blue Devils are 2-4 when facing top-5 teams ... Duke upset No. 1 and then-undefeated Old Dominion 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 16 to record the Blue Devils' first victory over a top-ranked team since downing Maryland 3-2 on Oct. 11, 2008 ... Duke has played six games this season again teams ranked in the top-3 nationally as well.
