Saturday's Game
No. 6 Duke, the 10th seed in the tournament, will take on seventh-seeded Stanford Saturday at 2 p.m. in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament Saturday, Nov. 12. The winner will advance to the second round on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m., facing the winner of Ohio State and host-team Old Dominion.

Scouting the Blue Devils
Duke, ranked sixth in the latest NFHCA National Coaches Poll and eighth in the latest RPI rankings, enters the Saturday's match with a 13-7 overall record ... The Blue Devils have won six of their last eight games entering the NCAA Tournament ... The Duke offense is led by sophomore All-ACC selection Emmie Le Marchand with 16 goals and seven assists ... Freshman Jessica Buttinger leads all Duke rookies with seven goals and two assists, while senior Tara Jennings (6g, 4a) and juniors Devon Gagliardi (8g, 4a) and Mary Nielsen (5g, 4a) have all reached double figure point totals for the season ... All-ACC goalkeeper Samantha Nelson has started every game in goal and ranks second in the ACC with a 1.25 goals against average and a .711 save percentage.

Scouting the Cardinal
Stanford holds the No. 10 spot in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll and sits at seventh in the RPI rankings after compling a 17-3 (6-0 NorPac) record this season ... The Cardinal won seven straight games prior to suffering a 1-0 defeat to California in the NorPac championship game in its last outing ... Stanford's offense is led by NorPac Co-Player of the Year Becky Dru with 16 goals and seven assists this season ... Hope Burke ranks second on the team with 28 points on eight goals and 12 assists, followed closely by Stephanie Byrne with 24 points on four goals and 16 assists ... Ale Moss has played in every game in goal for the Cardinal, sporting a 1.45 goals against average and a .701 save percentage this season.

Stanford Series History
Saturday's match will mark the third meeting between Duke and Stanford ... The two teams last met on Sept. 11, 1994 in Durham with the Blue Devils capturing a 3-0 victory over the Cardinal ... Duke and Stanford faced each other for the first time on Oct. 17, 1993 ... The Blue Devils won the inaugural meeting 2-1.

Duke NCAA Tournament History
Duke will make its 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament this season after earning an at-large bid ... The Blue Devils are 14-10 all-time in the NCAA Tournament ... 2011 marks Duke's first trip to the tournament since 2008 ... Duke earned seven consecutive bids from 2002-08 ... The Blue Devils have appeared in four NCAA semifinals (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006) and three NCAA finals (2003, 2004, 2005) ... The Blue Devils have advanced to the quarterfinal round in seven of their 10 previous tournaments and hold a 7-3 record in the opening round.

Duke in the ACC Tournament
Duke advanced to the finals of the ACC Championship for the third time (1990, 2003, 2011) in program history in 2011 ... The Blue Devils knocked off Virginia 3-2 in the first round before dispatching No. 3 Maryland 2-1 in the semifinals ... Duke fell 2-1 in the championship game to No. 1 and top-seeded North Carolina.

Blue Devils in the ACC
Duke finished the 2011 ACC regular season with a 2-3 conference record ... The Blue Devils topped ACC foes Wake Forest and Boston College, but fell to North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia ... Prior to this season, Duke had not won an ACC game since 2008 ... The Blue Devils are 36-91-2 all-time in ACC regular season games ... This season marked the 10th time Duke has finished third in the ACC standings.

ACC Honors
Sophomore Emmie Le Marchand, senior Stefanie Fee, senior Rhian Jones and redshirt senior Samantha Nelson were name to the 2011 All-ACC team as announced by the conference Nov. 1 ... Duke's four selections mark the most for the Blue Devils since Duke placed four players on the all-league squad in 2005 ... The honor is the third for Jones, while Le Marchand, Fee and Nelson are making their first appearances on the All-ACC team ... Coach Pam Bustin was also named ACC Coach of the Year after guiding Duke to an 11-6 regular season record. 

Devilish Defense
Duke boasts one of the top defenses in the country, allowing opponents just 26 goals in 20 games this season ... Prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament, the Blue Devils owned a team goals against average of 1.23, which ranked second in the ACC and eighth nationally ... Additionally, the Blue Devils have shut out six opponents this season, marking Duke's highest shutout total since the 2008 season. 

In Goal
Redshirt senior Samantha Nelson has started every game in goal for the Blue Devils this season ... Nelson ranks eighth nationally in goals against average (1.27) ... She has also posted the second-best save percentage in the ACC (.711) ... Nelson has five shutouts this year, bringing her career total to 17 shutouts ... In the Duke record books, Nelson ranks second in career goals against average (1.58) and tied for fourth in career saves (258) ... Should Nelson maintain her current 2011 goals against average (1.25), she would rank second in the Duke single season record books for that category. 

vs. Ranked Opponents
Twelve of the Blue Devils' 20 games this season have been against opponents ranked in the top-20 of the NFHCA Coaches Poll ... Duke is 7-5 this season when facing ranked opposition ... The Blue Devils are 2-4 when facing top-5 teams ... Duke upset No. 1 and then-undefeated Old Dominion 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 16 to record the Blue Devils' first victory over a top-ranked team since downing Maryland 3-2 on Oct. 11, 2008 ... Duke has played six games this season again teams ranked in the top-3 nationally as well. 

Offensive Production
Duke has scored 50 goals in 20 games this season, doubling the total from 2010 (25 goals, 19 games) ... In addition, four Blue Devils have posted career-best years lead by sophomore All-ACC performer Emmie Le Marchand with 16 goals, seven assists and 39 points ... Juniors Devon Gagliardi and Mary Nielsen as well as senior Tara Jennings are also enjoying career numbers this season ... Gagliardi ranks second on the team with eight goals and four assists, while Jennings is fourth with six goals and four assists ... Freshman Jessica Buttinger (7g, 2a) ranks third on the team in points and Nielsen (5g, 4a) is fifth with 14 points.

Overtime
The Blue Devils have had a school single-season record seven games go to overtime this season ... The previous single-season record was six overtime contests during the 2006 season ... Duke is 3-4 this season in overtime games ... The Blue Devils have had two games determined in double overtime and one contest that ended after penalty strokes ... Duke is 0-3 in games that feature more that one overtime period.

Four freshmen -- Abby Beltrani, Lauren Blazing, Jessica Buttinger and Martine Chichizola -- joined the Duke field hockey program for the 2011 season ... Buttinger, a forward from Waterloo, Ontario , leads all Duke rookies with seven goals and two assists this season.
