DURHAM, N.C.-  Twelve members of the Duke field hockey squad have been named to the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/ NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Monday, March 5.

The National Academic Squad recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through their first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.  The Blue Devils are represented by Chelsea Amsley, Lauren Blazing, Jessica Buttinger, Ashley Camano, Megan Deakins, Stefanie Fee, Devon Gagliardi, Abby Hassinger, Molly Johnson, Rhian Jones, Emmie Le Marchand and Mary Nielsen.  Both Deakins and Fee are four year recipients of this award. 

In addition, Duke is one of 65 schools to earn the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award honors, recognizing squads with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.  The Blue Devils earned a team GPA of 3.427 this past fall and are one of three ACC schools to earn this distinction, joining Maryland and Virginia.
