VICTORIA, B.C. - Rising senior Mary Nielsen along with rising sophomore Jessica Buttinger will represent Canada in a four match series against Team USA at the University of Victoria Field Hockey Turf on May 19-23.  Nielsen is a member of the Canadian National Team while Buttinger is serving as a reserve.

The two teams last met in the semi-finals of the 2011 Pan American Games.  Team USA won the match 4-2 and went on to upset Leonas of Argentina to earn a slot in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The  Canadian squad has spent the past four days in a training camp in Vancouver to prepare for the matchup.

"This series against a strong American side offers  the perfect opportunity to implement some new concepts we've been introducing within our Junior National Team," commented Alan Brahmst, Director of National Teams.  "We will also be having a look at some of the players pushing for a spot on the Women's Senior National Team."

Nielsen and Buttinger are two of the women Brahmst is talking about.  Nielsen, a midfielder and two-time member of the All-ACC Academic squad, participated in 21 matches for the Blue Devils last season, earning a career-high six goals and four assists.  Buttinger participated in all 22 of Duke's matches in the 2011 season. She ranked third on the team with seven goals on the season and ranked highest in the category for her freshman class.
