DURHAM, N.C. – Field hockey captain Devon Gagliardi has been selected by the NCAA to attend its Career in Sport Forum June 8-11 in Indianapolis, Ind., as announced by the organization Friday. The redshirt senior will join nearly 300 other student athletes from Division I, II, and III to learn about how to make a successful transition from competition to their future professions in intercollegiate athletics.

On the field, Gagliardi has participated in 60 games in her career. During the 2012 season, she finished with 18 points, which include seven goals and four assists. The Wilkes-Barre, Pa., native earned her first career hat trick against Kent State while also chipping in two assists to give her a career-high eight points.

Off the field, Gagliardi has served as a member of Duke’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for the past three years. She has also been involved in a variety of community service opportunities including Project Share, Duke Children’s Campus and MLK Million Dollar Meals.

The Career in Sports Forum brings career leaders together to discuss their professional career paths and to enlighten student-athletes on career choices and future decisions they’ll need to consider.   Some of the session topics include discussion on skills sets needed to perform at the highest level; nontraditional careers in athletics; best practices in athletics administration; personal and professional branding; resources for applying to graduate school; and human resource hiring processes.   There are also team sessions where the student-athletes are put in smaller groups to discuss key issues and take leadership roles amongst their peers.  The student-athletes will also engage in dialogue with senior administrators from the NCAA national office and will have a formal networking dinner with NCAA administrators.
