DURHAM, N.C. – Seven members of the Duke field hockey team will be in action this weekend at the USA Field Hockey Under-21 Women’s National Championship, held at the Powhatan Sports Complex on the campus of Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. The event, which runs June 20-25, will feature some of the top players in the nation, with all vying for the national title as well as a spot on the U.S. U-21 national team that will compete at the Junior World Cup July 27-Aug. 4 in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

Duke head coach Pam Bustin will also participate in this weekend’s tournament, overseeing the U-21 South squad, which includes rising senior Paula Heimbach and rising sophomore Hannah Barreca. Rising junior Abby Beltrani and rising sophomore Amanda Kim will represent the Blue Devils on the West team, while classmate Aileen Johnson is slated to compete on the North squad and redshirt sophomore Lauren Blazing and incoming freshman Heather Morris on the Metro team.

Barreca appeared in 13 games as a rookie on the Blue Devil defensive line and was selected to participate in the 2012 Junior Pan American Games.

Midfielder/forward Beltrani joined Barreca at the 2012 Junior Pan American Games, and recorded five points last season with one goal and three assists.

A goalkeeper from Chapel Hill, N.C., Blazing totaled 51 saves and posted a 1.99 goals against average in 13 games. She was also among the Blue Devils to participate in the 2012 Junior Pan American Games.

Johnson, a midfielder from Oceanport, N.J., started 12 games, finishing the fall with three points. She also represented the United States at the 2012 Junior Pan American Games.

A native of Richmond, Va., Kim saw action in 17 games in 2012 with five starts.

A defender from Palm, Pa., Heimbach started all 18 games during the 2012 campaign and received Longstreth/NFHCA third team All-America honors in addition to first team All-South and All-ACC recognition.

A forward/midfielder with national team experience, Morris completed an impressive prep career, topping the 100-goal mark during her senior campaign and garnering all-league and all-area honors. She also set a school single-season record and ranked eighth in the country with 43 goals as a junior.
