DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University forward Emmie Le Marchand was selected the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after recording a pair of goals in the Duke field hockey team’s weekend contests at Princeton and Rutgers.
A native of Worcester, England, Le Marchand tallied the then 10th-ranked Blue Devils’ lone goal Friday, Sept. 6 in a 3-1 loss to third-ranked Princeton. The senior capitalized on a Duke penalty corner opportunity late in the second half, playing in a ball from Brenna Rescigno for her third goal of the season.
Le Marchand added her second score of the weekend Sunday, Sept. 8 against Rutgers, pacing the squad to a 3-2 double overtime victory over the Scarlet Knights. That goal pushed her career points total to 100, making her the 11th Blue Devil in program history to reach the century mark. She also moved into a tie for ninth place on Duke’s all-time career goals chart with 42 so far in her four seasons.
Following this weekend’s action, Le Marchand has now registered a point in all four of the Blue Devils’ games this season while scoring in three. She currently leads the team in goals (4) and points (9) and is tied for fourth in the ACC at 1.00 goals per game.
Duke moved up one spot to No. 9 in this week’s Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches’ Poll after coming in at No. 10 in the preseason rankings.
The Blue Devils return home this weekend to host William & Mary at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 and No. 15 Old Dominion at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15. Sunday’s contest against the Monarchs will streamed live on GoDuke.com Inside Access.
