DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, sat down with senior Emmie Le Marchand to learn more about the Worcester, England native. Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
Emmie Le Marchand: My team. The fact that everyone is so supportive of different teams – you go to a girls’ soccer game and everyone is there. That’s pretty awesome, and well there are so many it’s hard to be specific! The facilities – the facilities are amazing. What is your favorite ‘on the field’ memory?
ELM: The game against UNC. After six years since we beat them, scoring to equalize right at the end of normal time, and then I’m so proud of us for how we scored five out of five shootouts to win. It was amazing. What is your favorite ‘off the field’ memory?
ELM: I think there’s just so many moments in the locker room with teammates and funny moments on the road and dinners and that sort of thing. I can’t think of anything specific but just that atmosphere when we travel is always pretty awesome. Name three things that motivate you to perform.
ELM: My dad, my team and just again my team and coaches. I think also I want to have no regrets, in field hockey and in life in general. So I don’t want to finish playing here and think, “Well I could have done that better,” or “Maybe if I had done that we could have won that game,” or anything like that. Name three things you want to do in the next ten years.
ELM: Travel as much as possible. I could give you a list of one hundred places I want to go visit but I won’t! I want to go skiing because I’ve never gone skiing. I always wanted to go when I was younger and then when I got older, school was always too serious so I was afraid to hurt myself. And I want to become fluent in French and live in Paris. What are your three favorite things about Field Hockey as a sport?
ELM: I am really proud of the fact that physically, it is so much harder than people imagine because you are trying to run and squat. I think sometimes field hockey athletes don’t get enough credit for the type of physicality it takes to run fast while in that position. I love moving the ball around when it is played well, like watching the Olympics and the highest caliber of play. I think it’s beautiful when it’s played well. And then I also love the fact that it’s really feisty and aggressive. Describe yourself in three words.
ELM: Driven, stubborn and loyal.
