DURHAM, N.C. – Duke field hockey seniors Paula Heimbach and Emmie Le Marchand have been tabbed to participate in the 2013 NFHCA Division I Senior Game, as announced by the organization Thursday, Oct. 31. This year’s contest will be held 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, Va.
One of the Blue Devils’ most dependable backs over the past four seasons, Heimbach has started 61 contests for her career. She earned Longstreth/NFHCA third team All-America and All-ACC accolades last fall and was named to the 2013 Preseason All-ACC squad by a vote of the league’s seven head coaches. The Palm, Pa., native has totaled one goal and three assists to go with two defensive saves in her career, and has guided the defense to four shutouts and a 1.23 goals against average this season.
Le Marchand will join Heimbach at the Senior Game after pacing the Duke offense with 28 points on 10 goals and eight assists through 17 games this season. A product of Worcester, England, Le Marchand has tallied a point in four of the squad’s five ACC matchups in 2013, including registering a game-tying goal in the 69th minute of the Blue Devils’ 3-2 overtime shootout victory over previously top-ranked and unbeaten North Carolina Sept. 27. The senior forward has started 76 games over her four seasons and currently ranks eighth in program history in points (119) and goals (48).
Heimbach, Le Marchand and seventh-ranked Duke wrap up regular season play Saturday, Nov. 2 against ACC opponent and top-ranked Maryland. The match begins at 1 p.m. at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium, with the Blue Devils slated to honor the program’s eight-member senior class at the conclusion of the contest.
