DURHAM, N.C. – A day after being named to the 2014 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Blazing has also been selected a Division I Scholar of Distinction by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

A product of Durham, N.C., Blazing was one of 82 Division I student-athletes who received the accolade. Student-athletes recognized as Scholars of Distinction have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year. She was one of 12 Blue Devils named to the Division I National Academic Squad Wednesday, March 19 by the NFHCA.

Blazing, a cultural anthropology and political science major, also received All-ACC Academic Team honors this spring, making her second career appearance on the conference academic squad.

One of the nation’s top goalkeepers this fall, Blazing garnered All-America third team, All-South Region first team, All-ACC second team and ACC All-Tournament team recognition while guiding the Blue Devils to the NCAA championship game. She concluded the season ranked fifth nationally and first in the ACC in save percentage with a .792 clip and was second in the league in saves per game (5.88). Blazing posted a career-high 22 saves in a 3-2 overtime shootout victory over previously unbeaten and top-ranked North Carolina Sept. 27.
