DURHAM, N.C. –  After spending the last eight days training with the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team in Seattle, head coach Michelle French named the 21-member roster that will represent the U.S. at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Toronto, Canada from August 5-24, which includes Duke sophomore Christina Gibbons.

“I'm honored to have been chosen as one of the 21 players to represent the United States in the upcoming U20 World Cup,” commented Gibbons.  “It's a privilege to be here and play for my country along with so many other talented players. I'm excited for the journey and can't wait for this awesome opportunity.”

A product of Raleigh, N.C., Gibbons started all 24 contests as a rookie at Duke last year.  She guided the Blue Devil defense to seven shutouts and played a team-best 2,228 minutes, which was a school-record for a freshman.  One of the most consistent players on the team in 2013, Gibbons registered assists against Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament, Virginia Tech and Kennesaw State.  She earned TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshmen Best XI, All-ACC Freshman team honors as well as Duke Classic All-Tournament team recognition during the season.

All three of the USA's group games will be broadcast live across the ESPN platforms. The U.S. plays its first two Group B matches at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, opening its tournament on Aug. 5 against Germany at 5 p.m. local (7 p.m. ET on ESPNU and WatchESPN) before facing Brazil on Aug. 8 at 8 p.m. local (10 p.m. ET on ESPNU and WatchESPN). The USA will finish group play on Aug. 12 against China PR at Moncton Stadium with a kickoff at 5 p.m. local (4 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and WatchESPN).

The 16 nations competing in the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup are: host Canada; China PR, Korea DPR and Korea Republic from Asia; Ghana and Nigeria from Africa; Germany, Finland, France and England from Europe; the USA, Mexico and Costa Rica from CONCACAF; Brazil and Paraguay from South America; and New Zealand from Oceania.

It marks the second straight World Cup that Duke has featured at least one student-athlete on the U.S. U-20 World Cup squad as senior Kelly Cobb and graduate Mollie Pathman helped lead the U.S. to the gold medal in 2012.
