DURHAM, N.C. - The 17th ranked Duke Blue Devils (3-4) bounced back from last weekend's struggle to earn a 2-1 victory  over the 25th  ranked Richmond on Friday night at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.  Redshirt junior Devon Gagliardi and junior Emmie Le Marchand were credited with the goals for the Blue Devils in the win.

"I was really impressed with how we used our defeat from last week and made the changes to get the win tonight", head coach Pam Bustin commented.  "We played a high intensity game against a quick and talented Richmond team and we were able to stay with them for 70 minutes."

Duke first got on the board a little over ten minutes into the game with a goal from Gagliardi.  The Wilkes Barre, Pa., native received a pass from senior Mary Nielsen directly in front of the net and hit a  shot from straight on for the score.  The goal marked Gagliardi's third of the 2012 season.

"I was especially impressed by Devon Gagliardi's leadership and skill which made a huge difference in the outcome of tonight's game."

Richmond responded about halfway through the first half with a fast break goal from junior Taylor Deitrick.  The Spiders made several quick passes to move down the field with the final one coming from sophomore Siegel to Deitrick who made the shot from five yards out.

In the second half, Duke regained the lead when Le Marchand fired a shot into the goal off of a penalty corner to put them up 2-1.  Senior inserter Chelsea Amsley and junior stopper Grace Christus were credited with the assist.   Duke had a number of other opportunities in the half, outshooting  Richmond 13-10 on the game.

Junior goalkeeper Ashley Camano ended the game with a spectacular save in traffic to prevent Richmond from scoring the equalizer, and ended the game with three saves.  Throughout the game she received a lot of assistance from the back line of junior Paula Hiembach and senior Abby Hassinger; their scrappy defense made it extremely challenging for Richmond to find clean shots.

The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday, September 16, at 1 p.m., against eighth ranked Old Dominion at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.   Live video and stats will be available at www.GoDuke.com
