DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Caroline Kiritsy to learn more about the West Roxbury, Mass., native.
GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite things about being a Duke Student athlete.
Caroline Kiritsy: I love being a part of a team at Duke. Just having a group of people that I know have my back in practice is a great thing to be a part of. I love the support of Duke Athletics, so the fact that whether you are an athlete or not an athlete, people love Duke Athletics. From K-ville to Wallace Wade, to all of the enthusiasm that goes into Duke Athletics. Then personally, I’ve loved all the academic support that I’ve gotten as an athlete. I would not still be an engineer at Duke if it weren’t for the academic support that we get.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite ‘on the water’ memory?
CK: Definitely ACC’s last year, my junior year. We were down to both Clemson and Virginia at 1000 meters, and then our boat just hit another gear and we ended up sprinting through Clemson to take second place.
GoDuke.com: Where do you get your source of motivation?
CK: Definitely from the athletes that I’m working with. My team motivates me both in practice and out of practice. Knowing the amount of work they put in and their work ethic and motivation motivates me to give them all the tools that I can to be successful because of how much they put into it.
GoDuke.com: What are your three foods you can’t live without?
CK: My mom’s chili. The Refectory grilled cheese and tomato soup, and my dad’s Mac n’ Cheese.
GoDuke.com: Name three things you would like to do in the next ten years.
CK: I want to have a dog probably in the next year. I want to travel somewhere unexpected for an extended period of time, and I want to see Duke Women’s Rowing go to NCAAs.
GoDuke.com: Name three things you would do if you had a day off (no class).
CK: Sleep in. Have a picnic in the Gardens or something. The Duke Gardens are beautiful, and have a really long dinner with our senior class, an uninterrupted long dinner.
GoDuke.com: Name three favorite places to eat in Durham.
CK: Bull City Burger, Elmo’s, and Parker and Otis.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite ‘off the water’ memory?
CK: I would say tenting during my freshman year. I was in a black tent, tenting the whole time, second row, and I saw Duke come back against Carolina.
