DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke rowing team will compete in the US Rowing Collegiate Championship this Saturday and Sunday, May 22-23, on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J.
The Blue Devils will deploy six boats at the inaugural national event, including the varsity eight that won the C Final at the 2010 South/Central Regional Aramark Sprints. Led by junior Alex Japhet, that group of coxswain Justine Hong, Emily Theys, Rory Erickson-Kulas, Laura Sciarrino, Kathy Smithwick, Caroline Fox, Kathryn Lowry, Stephanie Rosser and Japhet posted back-to-back first-place finishes in the C/D semifinal and the C final at last weekend's regionals.
Also racing for Duke are Laurel Sisler, Breanna Briede, Laura Guth and Katie Burke in the quad; Japhet and Sisler, and Guth and Burke in the pair; Baker, Smithwick, Erickson-Kulas, Theys and Fox in the one of Duke's four entries, and Emi Marchetti, Lowry, Rosser, Briede and Sciarrino in the other four.
Co-hosted by the Princeton National Rowing Association, the US Rowing Collegiate Championship will be held at the site of USRowing's National Training Center. Racing begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday and continues with the finals on Sunday.
