DURHAM, N.C. - Duke junior Alex Japhet was named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association's All-South Region First Team, the CRCA on Tuesday.
Japhet, a two-time All-ACC selection, led Duke's varsity eight to the gold medal at the US Rowing Collegiate Championship on May 22-23 and helped the boat take first place in each of their last three races. A fixture of Duke's varsity eight since her freshman year, Japhet becomes the 13th Duke rower to claim all-region honors.
With Japhet leading Duke's top boat, the varsity eight notched four first-place finishes in the fall along with a third-place showing at the ACC Championships. Along with the gold medal showing at the US Rowing Collegiate Championship, the Blue Devil V8 took first at the Occoquan Sprints Grand Final, the Knecht Cup and the South Regional Aramark Sprints C Final.
Japhet is one of eight ACC rowers to collect all-region first team honors this season and one of 11 ACC rowers to appear on any all-region team. A native of Everett, Wash. (Kamiak), she is also the sixth Duke rower to earn two All-ACC citations.
