DURHAM, N.C. - CRCA All-America selection Alex Japhet headlines a group of five Duke rowers who were named to the All-ACC Academic Rowing Team as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Thursday.

Japhet, a junior who is the fifth rower in Duke history to receive CRCA All-America honors, joins sophomore teammates Tori Arendt, Joline Doedens, Rory Erickson-Kulas and Ali Long on the All-ACC Academic Rowing Team. To be nominated for the team, the student-athlete must have maintained a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.00 GPA for their cumulative academic career.

In addition to excelling in the classroom, Japhet and Erickson-Kulas were both key members of Duke's varsity eight and led the boat to a gold-medal finish at the US Rowing Collegiate Championships in 2010. Both were also honored with spots in the All-ACC Rowing Team while Erickson-Kulas was named a CRCA Rowing Scholar-Athlete. Japhet, a native of Everett, Wash. (Kamiak), is majoring in Psychology while Erickson-Kulas, a native of Naugatuck, Conn. (Phillips Exeter), majors in Public Policy.

Arendt, Doedens and Long also appeared on the CRCA Rowing Scholar-Athlete squad alongside Erickson-Kulas and all emerged as significant contributors in their sophomore campaigns at Duke. Long and Doedens were both mainstays of the 2V8 and helped the squad place second at the Occoquan Sprints. Arendt, meanwhile, was a fixture of the V4 and helped the squad place third at the ACC Championships. A native of North Royalton, Ohio (North Royalton), Arendt is majoring in Biology. Doedens, a native of Stuart, Fla. (St. Edwards), majors in Women's Studies while Long, from New Haven, Conn. (Choate Rosemary Hall), majors in Economics.

NCAA Champion Virginia tied ACC runner-up Clemson for the most selections on the All-ACC Academic Team with eight, including ACC Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year Jennifer Cromwell. Duke and Miami followed with five selections each followed by Boston College with four and North Carolina with three.
