GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke's varsity quad and varsity pair were named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crews of the Week after capturing gold medals last Sunday at the 2011 Knecht Cup, on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
Duke's varsity quad, composed of 2010 All-America Alex Japhet, Katie Burk, Kathryn Lowry and Steffi Rosser, posted a time of 7:23.09 to defeat Massachusetts (7:29.85) in the finals.
Duke's varsity pair, composed of 2010 All-ACC Rory Erickson-Kulas and Emily Theys posted a time of 8:24.06 to defeat Fairfield (8:32.30), Kansas (8:36.57), Massachusetts "A" (8:46.32), Pittsburgh (8:46.57) and Massachusetts "B" (8:55.24), in the Grand Final of the pairs competition. Earlier Erickson-Kulas and Theys, two of just 24 rowers nationally who have been selected to participate in the 2011 US Rowing Women's U23 National Team Camp this summer, had posted the fastest times of the heats and semifinals in the varsity pairs events.
Duke will next be in action at the 2011 ACC Rowing Championships which will be held on Saturday, April 23, on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.
