Durham, N.C. - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association released the final regular season Division I rankings on Wednesday with Duke taking 24th. Also making the list were fellow Atlantic Coast Conference schools, Virginia (3) and Clemson (13).
"We have a great group of young athletes that are gaining tremendous experience with each collegiate race so it was very rewarding for the team to perform so well against ranked opponents and earn a top 25 ranking," said head coach Robyn Horner. "We are very excited about the future of Duke Rowing."
The Blue Devils closed out a successful season at the Oak Ridge Regional on May 15, finishing third in the varsity eight and fourth in the varsity four grand finals, while also winning the second varsity eight and open four petite finals. The team finished third at the 2011 ACC Championships and had two members of the team, senior co-captain Alex Japhet and sophomore Emily Theys, selected to the ALL-ACC team.
The Duke rowing team will return all of their squad, with the exception of graduating senior Japhet. The Blue Devils are bringing in a strong class of nine freshmen for the 2011-12 season.
