DURHAM, N.C. - Duke senior Alex Japhet was named to the CRCA All-America Second Team, as announced on Monday by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. This is the second consecutive year the senior has received the honor.
Last season, Japhet become only the fifth Blue Devil in school history to earn All-America honors, becoming one of the most decorated rowers to leave Duke. The Everett, Wash., native was also named to the All-South Region First Team, again for the second time.
A fixture of the varsity eight, Japhet helped the Blue Devils to top finishes throughout the season, including a third place finish at the Oak Ridge Invitational, which beat out top-ranked boats Louisville and Notre Dame.
Duke also took third in the 2011 ACC Championships, where the senior was named to the All-ACC Team for the third time in her collegiate career.
This year Japhet, along with sophomore Emily Theys, was one of just 24 rowers to be selected to the USRowing U23 National Team Camp this summer.
Japhet is one of only four ACC rowers to appear on the 2011 CRCA All-America team, joining two representatives from ACC Champion Virginia, and one from Clemson. In all, 43 rowers were selected to represent the 2011 All-America teams.
