Oak Ridge, Tenn. - The Duke University rowing team concluded day one of the Oak Ridge Invitational on Saturday with the Blue Devils winning six of their ten races on Melton Lake.
Morning Session:
The varsity eight crew of Caroline Kiritsy, Kathy Smithwick, Katie Burke, Emily Theys, Rory Erickson-Kulas, Tara Dalton, Laura Sciarrino, Grace Cassidy and Claire Vannelli finished five seconds behind Louisville with a time of 6:35.32. Dayton came in third at 6:48.96.
Duke's second varsity eight trailed seven seconds behind Louisville (6:43.90) with the crew of Sarah Baker, Sophia Blair, Tori Arendt, Laura Guth, Lauren Lashmet, Brielle Batesko, Julie Rohde, Victoria Tsamis and Sydney Johnson, while Dayton took third with a time of 7:01.11.
The Blue Devils went head to head with Louisville in the varsity four, beating the Cardinals by 28 seconds with a time of 7:36.60.
In the second varsity four, the crew of Kara Risser, Patricia Kolman, Emily Hyland and Shaye Bastien finished with a time of 7:52.49 to trail Notre Dame (7:40.20).
The novice eight boat of Kathryn Walter, Karolina Wadolowska, Alexandra Enzor, Caroline Williams, Kathleen Lyons, Sophia Staal, Nicole Antoine, Sarah Mayo and Emily Hadley finished with a time of 7:14.20 to defeat Louisville (7:26.93) and Dayton (7:41.00).
Afternoon Session:
Duke won the novice eight with a time of 7:03.36, finishing four seconds ahead of Buffalo, with Louisville trailing with a time of 7:22.28.
The Blue Devils went head to head against Buffalo in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four, winning all three races. Duke finished with a time of 6:28.13 in the varsity eight, 6:53.20 in the second varsity eight and 7:29.80 in the varsity four.
In the second varsity four, Duke fell to Tennessee (7:22.40) with a time of 7:41.26.
The Blue Devils will conclude the Oak Ridge Invitational Sunday afternoon with races against Kansas, Tennessee, Minnesota, Buffalo, Jacksonville and No. 1 ranked Virginia.
