DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke rowing team will make its third appearance at the Knecht Cup this Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15, on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J., competing against 60 schools from across the country.
Duke will enter a combined six boats in the 1X, V4, Novice 8, V8, 2V8 and 2V4. Duke's varsity eight boat will stay intact with the crew of coxswain Caroline Kiritsy, Kathy Smithwick, Katie Burke, Emily Theys, Rory Erickson-Kulas, Tara Dalton, Laura Sciarrino, Grace Cassidy and Claire Vannelli, and look to find continued success after winning their cup at the San Diego Crew Classic two weeks ago.
Now midway through their 2012 spring season, the Blue Devils will use this weekend's races as another opportunity to prepare for next week's ACC Championships in Clemson, S.C.
"This is going to be a good weekend for us to go down the course three times and execute our race plan," said head Coach Robyn Horner. "We're looking to execute at a high level in preparation for ACC's next weekend.
Racing is set to start at 7 a.m. on Saturday with the women's varsity pair and will run until the final race of the day at 7:01 p.m.
Duke's qualifying boats will then advance to the finals on Sunday with the Women's Single opening competition at 7:20 a.m.
