DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke rowing team will compete in its final regatta of the regular season this Saturday at the UVa Invite at Lake Monticello, Va.

The Blue Devils will face Syracuse, Michigan State and Virginia in a series of dual races in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and third varsity eight. Racing begins at 8 a.m. Saturday in a V8 showdown against Syracuse and continues through Duke’s final race of the day, a 3V8 matchup against Virginia.

“Last weekend at Clemson, some of our boats started to find some good speed, so the team is definitely trying to continue that upward momentum and to really execute our race plans,” said Caroline Williams, a junior in the varsity eight. “We all just want to show up and have a great race, and hopefully that will translate into good results.”

Duke is coming off of the Clemson Invitational this past weekend when the varsity four placed second in a strong field and the varsity eight clocked a third-place finish on day two of the event. The UVa Invitational will forego the multi-boat format for a dual-race format, pitting Duke against one other boat in all races except for the final race of the day, which features Duke facing two Virginia boats in the 3V8.

“This weekend I just want to show other teams how much fight we have,” said sophomore Alex Stonehill, also a member of the V8. “I hope we can gain enough confidence going into ACCs to perform as well as we possibly can. I know we can do it, and I want to use this weekend to keep practicing that aggressiveness.”

The UVa Invitational will be Duke’s final tune-up before the ACC Championship, which for the first time will employ a two-day format on May 16-17 on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.
