McCrory received the weekly honor after returning to collegiate competition last weekend following a year of training which culminated in a bronze medal in synchronized platform diving at the 2012 London Olympics. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native competed in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard diving events at the Tennessee Diving Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn., posting top-three finishes in both.
On the 1-meter board, McCrory advanced to the event finals where he recorded an NCAA Zone Diving Championships qualifying mark of 319.75 to finish second of 12 divers. He also qualified for the final of the 3-meter competition the next day, garnering a score of 370.70 from the judges to take third. The 370.70 points surpassed the NCAA Zone Diving Championships standard for the 3-meter height.
McCrory and the Blue Devils return to action Saturday, Jan. 12 when the swimming and diving program hosts South Carolina at 11 a.m. in Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion. The program's 16 seniors will be honored prior to the start of the meet.
