DURHAM, N.C. – After the Duke women’s swimming and diving team broke 14 school records, earned two All-ACC medals and qualified a relay to the NCAA Championships at last week’s conference meet, the Blue Devil men will look to follow suit this week in Greensboro.

The 2014 ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship kicks off the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center and continues with preliminaries and finals sessions at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27 through Saturday, March 1. Finals sessions Thursday through Saturday will be streamed live on TheACC.com from 7 to 9 p.m. each evening, while live results will be available throughout the meet.

Scouting the Competition
The ACC currently features five teams ranked in the top 25 of the CSCAA Division I Men’s Team Rankings … North Carolina leads the way at No. 13, followed by No. 17 Florida State, No. 18 Virginia Tech, No. 20 NC State and No. 22 Virginia … Notre Dame also received votes in the latest poll … The Cavalier men have won six consecutive conference titles entering the meet … Virginia Tech (5-0) and Florida State (2-0) finished atop the regular season ACC standings … The Duke men went 0-3 against conference competition this season … Men’s teams from Notre Dame and Pittsburgh will take part in the ACC Championship for the first time since joining the conference.

New Scoring Format Introduced for 2014 ACC Championship
Beginning this year, all three swimming finals events – the championship ‘A’ final, consolation ‘B’ final and bonus ‘C’ final – will be scored … This marks a change from previous ACC Championships, where only competitors in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals scored … All 24 competitors in a finals event will now be able to contribute to their team’s total score.

McCrory Shines in Final ACC Championship Appearance
Senior Nick McCrory did not disappoint in his final trip to the ACC Championship … He was named the Most Valuable Diver for the fourth time in his career, becoming the only four-time winner of the title in the history of the ACC … The Chapel Hill, N.C., native swept the three diving disciplines for the second consecutive year, breaking his own conference and program record on the 3-meter springboard with a finals award of 531.00 … McCrory concluded his final ACC Championship as the most decorated diver in the history of the conference with 10 ACC diving crowns for his career … McCrory, along with sophomore Deon Reid and freshman Cole Plambeck, totaled 125 points for the Duke men during the diving events last week.

Duke at the 2013 ACC Championship
The Blue Devil men finished seventh in the team standings with 268 points at the 2013 ACC Championship in Greensboro … The team combined for five All-ACC performances and four program records during the course of the meet … Hunter Knight garnered the first all-conference accolades of his career in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke … Nick McCrory swept the three diving disciplines and was named the Most Valuable Diver for the third time in his career … McCrory also secured his status as the most decorated diver in the history of the conference and went on to claim his third career platform diving crown at the 2013 NCAA Championships.

Knight Looks to Lead the Way
Senior Hunter Knight ranks fifth in the ACC with his 100 breaststroke time of 54.19 at the Nike Cup Invitational … He is also ninth in the 200 breaststroke heading into the conference meet … Knight is also tied for 46th nationally in the 100 breaststroke … A product of Richmond, Va., Knight claimed All-ACC honors last year in both breaststroke events … One of Duke’s most experienced swimmers and the program record holder in the 200 breaststroke, Knight will look to lead a group of young Blue Devils this weekend in Greensboro.

Colella’s Take
“We’re coming off of the women’s meet, which was a great meet,” said head coach Dan Colella. “The vast majority of the women went lifetime best. We’d like to see that happen again this week. We have a lot of people that have a lot of ability and potential. We are bringing 11 freshmen out of the 16 swimmers, and I have all the confidence in the world that they’re going to swim fast.”
