DURHAM, N.C. – Former Blue Devil Abby Johnston will make her return to diving this weekend at the World Cup Synchronized Diving Trials in Tallahassee, Fla. The top pair in each of the six events will represent USA Diving at the 2014 FINA Diving World Cup in Shanghai July 15-20.
Johnston will compete in the synchronized three-meter springboard event at the three-day meet, which begins Friday, Apr. 11 and continues through Sunday, Apr. 13 at the Morcom Aquatics Center.
A 2013 graduate of Duke, Johnston claimed the first national title for the Blue Devil women’s swimming and diving program in 2011 on the three-meter board and was a three-time All-American during her collegiate career. She also earned five ACC titles and still holds school records in one-meter and three-meter diving.
The Upper Arlington, Ohio native made history at the 2012 London Olympic Games, pairing with fellow American Kelci Bryant to help the United States capture its first medal in synchronized diving with a silver on the 3-meter springboard.
Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. each day in Tallahassee with finals for Friday and Saturday’s events scheduled for 4 p.m. Finals for the women’s 10-meter event Sunday will get underway at 3 p.m., followed by the men’s finals at 4:15 p.m.
The women’s synchronized three-meter event will be held Friday, Apr. 11.
