SHANGHAI – Former Duke All-American Abby Johnston opened action at the 2014 FINA Diving World Cup Wednesday, July 16 at the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai.

Johnston paired with Laura Ryan to earn a 14th-place finish in the women’s synchronized 3-meter preliminaries. The duo rebounded from a 27.60-point dive in the first round to earn more than 60 points on each of the three optional dives. Johnston and Ryan concluded the preliminaries with a total award of 262.50, falling just 8.7 points short of advancing to the finals.

Junior Jaimee Gundry will represent her native country of South Africa in the women’s 10-meter preliminaries Friday morning in Shanghai, while recent graduate Nick McCrory is slated to compete in the men’s 3-meter event later that afternoon.
