Day Two of Zones Yields Top-10 Finishes

AUBURN, Ala. - Duke divers earned a pair of top-10 finishes on the second day of competition at the 2012 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships Tuesday at Auburn's James E. Martin Aquatics Center.

The day began with the preliminaries of the men's 1-meter competition, which saw junior Jordan Long place 13th with a score of 300.35 and senior Cody Kolodziejzyk earn 296.50 points to come in 16th. Both advanced to the event finals, with Kolodziejzyk qualifying for his second final event of the week after also doing so on Monday at the 3-meter height. Meanwhile, senior Shawn Hoffman notched a 27th-place showing in the 1-meter prelims with a score of 262.35 and freshman Clay Pinckney scored 261.45 points to finish 28th.

In the finals, Kolodziejzyk garnered his second top-10 performance of the Zone Championships, taking ninth overall with a combined score of 634.40. Long improved three spots from an 18th-place performance at last year's Zones meet, coming in 15th with a combined score of 605.55 for the two rounds.

Senior Jessica Lyden, the 2012 ACC Champion on the 3-meter board, qualified for the event finals Tuesday with an 11th-place finish in the prelims. Lyden amassed 634.40 points for her two lists of dives to move up to ninth overall.

The NCAA Zone B Diving Championships conclude Wednesday with the prelims and finals of the men's and women's platform diving events. Just two spots remain up for grabs on the men's side to qualify for the NCAA Championships, while three berths remain open on the women's side.
