DURHAM, N.C. - After capturing two national titles and garnering ACC Diver of the Year accolades for the second consecutive year, Duke divers Abby Johnston and Nick McCrory have no time to rest as they set course for two international competitions in the Diving World Series.
"It's a really special thing to put on that red, white and blue uniform," said diving coach Drew Johansen. "The World Series events are a precursor to the World events this summer, and the World events are obviously a precursor to the Olympics next year. This will be a test to see where they stand against the rest of the world."
The pair, along with coach Johansen, will first travel to Sheffield, Great Britain, Friday and Saturday, April 15-16. McCrory will take to competing in his best event, the 10-meter platform, on Saturday. He is also set to partner with his collegiate rival, but long-standing friend, David Boudia (formerly of Purdue University), for the men's 10-meter synchronized event on Friday. Johnston is set to compete in the three-meter springboard event on Saturday.
The two Blue Devil divers will then travel to Guanajuato City, Mexico, Friday-Saturday, April 22-23, to compete in the final leg of the four-location series (Moscow, Russia; Beijing, China; Sheffield, Great Britain; Guanajuato City, Mexico). Johnston is set to compete in the three-meter competition as well as the three-meter synchronized competition with partner Kassidy Cook.
"I think they are both at the top of their game, and it's going to be exciting to see them compete," said Johansen.
