GREENSBORO, N.C. - On Wednesday, ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced the All-ACC Academic Team selections, which included three Blue Devil men and two Blue Devil women.
The men's selections included senior Nick Garvy, and sophomores Ben Hwang and Nick McCrory. This marks the second time Hwang, and international comparative studies major, and McCrory, a mathematics major, have been selected to the All-ACC Academic Team. The trio were also members of the All-ACC Team after their top finishes in the 2011 ACC Championships. Both Garvy and McCrory competed in the NCAA Championships, with McCrory garnering his second All-America honors after once again claiming the national title on the men's platform.
On the women's side, senior Ashley Twichell and junior Abby Johnston also collected All-ACC Academic honors. Twichell is one of just two women who is a four-time honoree. Along with being named to the team, the psychology major was also a member of the All-ACC Team, after capturing the title in the 1650 free at the ACC Championships, as well as collecting All-America honors for her fifth place finish at the NCAAs. Johnston collected her third selection to the All-ACC Academic Team. The psychology major also garnered her third All-ACC honors after sweeping both the one- and three-meter at the ACCs, and collected her second All-America honors after claiming the national title at the NCAA Championships.
To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.
