Rising sophomore Megan McCarroll achieved a U.S. Olympic Team Trials standard in the 100-meter backstroke, notching a time of 1:03.95 during Saturday morning's preliminaries. McCarroll's prelims performance advanced her to the event finals, where she tapped the wall at 1:04.10 to come in 21st overall. The Portland, Ore., native also took first in the 200 back at the Midday Meet, clocking 2:20.57.
Former Duke All-American Ashley Twichell had another solid outing Saturday, making the Olympic Trials cut in the 400 free. Twichell recorded a time of 4:18.39 in the event preliminaries before swimming 4:16.95 in the final to place 22nd.
After surpassing the Olympic Trials standard in the 50 free on Friday, rising junior Lauren Weaver reached the event finals Saturday evening with a 24th-place finish in the preliminaries. Weaver touched in 26.52 during the evening session to come in 22nd overall.
Rising senior Ben Hwang also competed in the 50 free on the men's side, narrowly missing the event finals with a 23.62 prelims clocking. Meanwhile, Hunter Knight and Jim Zuponeck both represented Duke in the preliminaries of the 200 breast, with Knight finishing 37th at 2:25.51 and Zuponeck posting a time of 2:27.94 to come in 50th. Saturday morning's session also saw rising senior Cara Vogel take 49th in the 100 back prelims at 1:05.97 and Ted Minturn swim 1:00.68 to place 56th in the same event on the men's side.
