McCrory Blog #1: Bringing Home the Bronze (July 31, 2012)
Wow. So far, my Olympic experience has been everything it is cracked up to be. From the electric communal energy in the Olympic Village, the breath-taking sporting venues, and the massive, roaring crowds, it truly does feel like the Olympics.
I feel honored to be here representing the United States, Duke University, and my hometown of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I am even more proud to be bringing home an Olympic medal! I finished third in the men's 10 meter platform synchronized with my partner, David Boudia. We took the competition dive by dive, and stayed true to our technique rather than focusing on the end result. Focusing in the moment and not acknowledging any distractions allowed us to succeed.
My entire family was here to cheer me on, which made it extremely special. This success is largely due to their hard work, love and support. Also, I would not be here without my coach, Drew Johansen, the medical team that has kept me physically healthy, the schools that I have attended that allowed me to pursue my dreams, and my longtime friend and first coach, Nunzio Esposto.
However, today is a new day, and I will begin to prepare for my individual 10 meter event, which is set to start on August 10th!
