CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Duke's divers took to the boards Saturday night against Virginia ahead of Sunday's dual meet with the Cavaliers.
Junior Nick McCrory paced the Blue Devil men with a pair of second-place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native earned a season-best mark of 398.25 on the 1-meter board and scored 368.10 points at the 3-meter height, with both performances surpassing the NCAA Zone Diving Championships qualifying standards.
Senior Jordan Long also turned in a season-best performance in the men's 1-meter competition, receiving an award of 352.65 points from the judges to take third overall. Long finished third on the 3-meter board with a score of 369.15 and joined McCrory in posting NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks in both events.
Freshman Deon Reid notched an NCAA Zone Diving cut at the 3-meter height, scoring 342.90 points to place fifth. The rookie from Long Beach, Calif., also took seventh on the 1-meter board with a season-best mark of 280.50.
On the women's side, freshman Kendall McClenney came in third on the 1-meter board (263.55) and fifth at the 3-meter height (239.93), while fellow rookie Jaimee Gundry finished sixth on both boards with scores of 207.00 in the 1-meter event and 218.92 on the 3-meter.
The Blue Devil swimmers face Virginia Sunday, Jan. 20 at 12 p.m. Live results will be available for each event.
