DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Nick McCrory to learn more about the Chapel Hill, N.C., native.

GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
Nick McCrory: The K Center – I love studying there. Getting to represent Duke at all sorts of competitions, ranging from dual meets to NCAAs. And my third favorite is the group of friends that you make among the athletes at Duke. It’s really cool and it’s something we all share.

GoDuke.com: What is your favorite competition-related memory?
NM: My favorite memory would have to be my first NCAA Championship. It was really exciting and I didn’t think I was going to be able to win that year because I had some really tough competition with David [Boudia]. But I had a phenomenal meet and I was really ecstatic and surprised and happy.

GoDuke.com: What is your favorite memory away from the pool?
NM: My favorite memory is just my first week here on campus. When I was a freshman, I remember coming in and I was nervous about all the people that I would be meeting and all the new things I was going to experience. The first week was one of the most fun times of my life. I met so many people and had so much fun.

GoDuke.com: What are your three favorite things about the sport of diving?
NM: I really like the excitement of it, the adrenaline rush. It’s a very mental sport because you have to constantly be conquering your fears and making yourself do things that are sort of outside your comfort zone. The other thing I love about it is there’s always room for improvement. There’s always something that you can do better and I think that my perfectionist tendencies push me in the sport because I always can see something in my dive that I don’t like and want to change. And the third thing is not so much about diving but that it’s given me the opportunity to travel all over the place. It’s been incredible and something that I’m very thankful for. I’ve gotten to see the world and just had so many incredible experiences.

GoDuke.com: What are three foods you can’t live without?
NM: Ice cream, Chinese food and all of my mom’s cooking.

GoDuke.com: What are some things you would like to do in the next 10 years?
NM: My goal eventually is to go to medical school, so that is on the list. If I continue diving, then I would like to go to the Olympics again.

GoDuke.com: Name three people (dead or alive) you would have dinner with if you could.
NM: Emma Watson because she is one of my favorite people ever, the President because that would make me feel important and Jesus because I’d have a lot of questions and I’m a religion major.
