DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Nick McCrory was named the ACC Male Diver of the Week for the fifth time Tuesday, Feb. 4, matching the conference record for weekly awards garnered in a season.
Competing in Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion for the final time in his career, McCrory remained undefeated on the season with a pair of wins in the regular season finale against North Carolina Saturday, Feb. 1. He set a pool record in the 1-meter springboard competition, registering an award of 478.43 to place first. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native was also impressive on the 3-meter board, breaking his own program and facility record with a score of 519.00 in another first-place showing.
McCrory continues to lead the conference in men’s 1-meter, 3-meter and platform diving heading into the ACC Championships Feb. 19-22 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
His five ACC Male Diver of the Week accolades this year ties the conference record set by Virginia swimmer Luke Anderson during the 2004-05 season. During that time, the ACC awarded just one male athlete of the week honor, with the weekly awards expanded to include one Male Swimmer of the Week and one Male Diver of the Week selection prior to the 2012-13 season.
