INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Junior Christine Wixted wrapped up the 2013 Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday, competing in her second event on the final day of competition at the IU Natatorium and the IUPUI Sports Complex in Indianapolis.

After placing 36th in Friday’s 100-yard breaststroke trials, Wixted returned to the pool Saturday in the 200 breaststroke. A product of Greenwood Village, Colo., she touched at 2:11.94 to place 31st out of 52 swimmers in the event preliminaries.

“We felt like Christine came back today and had a better performance than she did yesterday in the 100,” said head coach Dan Colella. “It’s been one of our goals for the last three years to get to the NCAA Championships, and she achieved that. She has been an instrumental part of our lineup all year long.”

Wixted concludes the 2012-13 season as the Blue Devils’ program record holder and top performer in the 100 (59.95) and 200 breaststroke (2:10.19) events. She posted the top time of the season in the 200 IM (1:59.55), in addition to collecting All-Atlantic Coast Conference accolades in both breaststroke events for the second consecutive season. An integral member of Duke’s relay squads during the 2012-13 campaign, Wixted helped rewrite the program record books during the ACC Championships, setting new school marks in the 200 freestyle (1:30.56), 400 freestyle (3:21.43) and 200 medley (1:39.80) relays.

Along with teammate Lauren Weaver, who competed in Thursday’s 50 freestyle preliminaries, Wixted ended the season with her first career appearance at the NCAA Championships meet.

“It was a great year for both Christine and Lauren, and the whole program,” Colella said. “Coming to NCAAs has been a great experience for them. They are both really eager and hungry for next year and are already talking about things they want to work on. We’re looking forward to their senior year and how they’ll contribute individually and stand up as leaders of the program.”

Duke will also be represented at next week’s NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, as divers Jordan Long and Nick McCrory have both qualified for the championship meet.
