DURHAM, N.C. –  Duke University goalkeeper Tara Campbell has been selected one of five first team All-America selections by the Senior CLASS Award, after the Blue Devils advanced to at least the NCAA Elite Eight for the second straight year.

Along with Campbell on the first team was Amber Brooks (North Carolina), Tishia Jewell (UCF), Lindsi Lisonbee Cutshall (BYU) and Mariah Nogueira (Stanford).  Jewell was selected the overall winner of the 2012 Senior CLASS Award.

The award, chosen by a nationwide vote of Division I women’s soccer coaches, national soccer media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I women’s soccer. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, community, character and competition.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Campbell concluded her standout four-year career in 2012 and will leave Duke as one of the best all-time goalkeepers in school history.  She concluded her career near the top of the Blue Devil record books – second in saves (302), third in shutouts (30) and second in goals-against average (0.91).  The 5-8 goalkeeper led Duke to 54 wins in goal and played over 8,000 minutes for the Blue Devils over her career.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

As a team, Duke registered a 15-6-2 overall record, before falling at top-seeded Penn State, 1-0, in the NCAA Elite Eight.
