DURHAM, N.C.-- The eighth-ranked Duke women’s golf team received its 20th consecutive bid to participate in NCAA Regional action on Monday as the Blue Devils were seeded No. 3 in the East Region and will next travel to State College, Pa., from May 10-12 to play for an invitation to the NCAA Championship.  The regional will be played at the Penn State Golf Courses - Blue Course.

Other teams competing in the East Region are Alabama, Arizona State, Duke, Texas A&M, Florida, Arizona, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Michigan State, Washington, Texas, Tulane, UCF, Wake Forest, Northwestern, San Diego State, Kent State, Maryland, Augusta State, Campbell, Chattanooga, Oral Roberts, Jacksonville State and LIU Brooklyn.  The following individuals will also be competing -- Fanny Cnops (UNCG), Charlotte Lorentzen (Georgia State), Katie Mundy (FIU), Michelle Piyapattra (Columbia) and Laura Wearn (Furman).

The regional will be a three-day, 54-hole tournament with 18 holes played each day.  Duke will open action on Thursday May 10 on hole No. 1 at 8:36 a.m., along with Alabama and Arizona State.   Duke has claimed East Region titles on seven occasions -- 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007. 

The top three seeds in the Central Regional were Southern California, Auburn and Georgia, while the top teams in the West Regional are UCLA, LSU and North Carolina.

The top eight teams and top two individuals (not on one of those eight teams) advance on to the NCAA Championships to be played May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.  The Blue Devils have won a total of five NCAA Championships over the last 13 years ---1999, 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Duke is currently ranked eighth nationally in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.  In the individual rankings, Blue Devil junior Lindy Duncan is No. 1, while sophomore Laetitia Beck is 49th.  Duke will feature a lineup of Duncan, Beck, sophomore Alejandra Cangrejo, junior Courtney Ellenbogen and junior Stacey Kim.

The Blue Devils are coming off claiming their 17th ACC Championship on April 15 as Duke carded rounds of 280, 303 and 292 for a total of 875.  It was the first league title since 2008 for the Blue Devils.  Duncan registered individual medalist honors at the ACC Championship giving her four victories on the season.  As a team, Duke posted four golfers in the top 19 of the event. 

Head coach Dan Brooks, who was named the ACC Coach of the Year on Monday, is in his 28th season with the Blue Devils and has led Duke to a NCAA-record 112 career wins.  He has taken his squads to the NCAA Regionals every year since 1993.
