DURHAM, N.C. – At the midway point of the 2012 WNBA season, checks in to see how the eight Duke alums are performing so far.  The eight current WNBA players ranks third among collegiate programs.

Alana Beard- Duke ‘04
LA Sparks, 5-11, Guard/Forward
2012 Stats:
20 games, 31.9 MPG, 9.4 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 3.5 APG, 1.6 SPG, 0.6 BPG

Alana Beard has helped lead Los Angeles to a 15-6 overall record on the season and the Sparks are only one game out of first place in the Western Conference.  Beard and Los Angeles have won five in a row as she is averaging 9.4 points, 3.5 assists and 2.4 rebounds on the season.  In the Sparks victory against the Dream on July 8, Beard posted seven points, four rebounds, seven assists and three steals. She is coming off notching six points, seven assists, two rebounds and three steals in a blowout victory over Phoenix. In the league, she ranks fourth in minutes played (637.0), seventh in steals (32.0), eighth in total turnovers (52.0), ninth in steals per game (1.6), 10th in minutes per game (31.9), 11th in assists (70.0), 13th in turnovers per game (2.6), 14th in assists per game (3.5), 18th in double-doubles (1.0). The Sparks will next travel to Seattle to face the Storm on Saturday, August 18 at 10:00 p.m.

Lindsey Harding- Duke ‘07
Atlanta Dream, 5-8, Guard
2012 Stats:
19 games, 28.9 MPG, 11.2 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 4.1 APG, 1.4 SPG, 0.4 BPG

Lindsey Harding has averaged 10.3 points, 5.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 0.7 blocks in the last three contests. Harding has guided Atlanta to a 9-10 overall record, which ranks third in the Eastern Conference.  In the victory against the Seattle Storm on July 11, Harding notched 15 points while tying her season high of five assists. Harding continues to rank in multiple categories in the WNBA stats. She is eighth in assists per turnover (2.0), ninth in assists (77.0), 10th in assists per game (4.1), 11th in assists per 40 minutes (5.6), 14th in steals (26.0), 16th in steals per game (1.4), 17th in minutes played (549.0), 20th in field goal attempts (205.0), 27th in points (213.0) and 29th in points per game (11.2). The Atlanta Dream will next travel to Chicago to face the Sky on Friday, August 17.

Monique Currie- Duke ‘06
Washington Mystics, 6’0, Forward
2012 Stats:
18 games, 23.6 MPG, 10.6 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 1.4 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.2 BPG

Coming off of a big win against the Liberty, Monique Currie played 18 minutes while netting 16 points with one rebound, one steal and one block. Currie’s had strong performances throughout the last three contests averaging 11.0 points. She has started the last six straight games for the Mystics.  In the WNBA rankings she is eighth in free throws per 40 minutes (5.0), 10th in free throw attempts per 40 minutes (6.4), 14th in free throws (53.0) and 17th in free throw attempts (68.0). Washington owns a 4-14 overall record on the season.  The Washington Mystics will face the Indiana Fever on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m.

Jasmine Thomas- Duke ‘11
Washington Mystics, 5’9, Guard
2012 Stats:
18 games, 17.9 MPG, 6.3 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 2.7 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.2 BPG

Jasmine Thomas put on a solid performance in the victory against New York to close out the first half of the regular season on July 13.  She notched seven points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block versus the Liberty. Thomas has averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks in the last three contests. She ranks ninth in assists per 40 minutes (6.1) and 14th in assists per turnover (1.7) in the WNBA rankings. Washington owns a 4-14 overall record on the season.  The Washington Mystics will play again on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m., against the Minnesota Lynx.

Mistie (Bass) Mims- Duke ‘06
Connecticut Sun, 6’3, Forward
2012 Stats:
19 games, 15.3 MPG, 7.2 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 0.6 APG, 0.4 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Mistie (Bass) Mims has helped lead the Connecticut sun to a 15-4 overall record and first place in the Eastern Conference.  She played a major role in the Sun’s two-point victory over the Chicago Sky on July 13. Mims posted a career-high 19 points as she played 35 minutes against the Sky. She hit 6-13 field goals, while posting 19 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. In the last three contests, Mims averaged 9.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 0.3 assists. She ranks sixth in efficiency ranking per 40 minutes (24.1), 15th in free throws per 40 minutes (4.4), 17th in free throw attempts per 40 minutes (5.6), 17th in rebounds per 40 minutes (10.1), 18th in offensive rebounds per 40 minutes (3.6), 18th in double-doubles (1.0) and 19th in field goals per 40 minutes (7.2). The Connecticut Sun will head to New York for their next contest on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m.

Karima Christmas- Duke ‘11
Indiana Fever, 6-0, Guard/Forward
2012 Stats:
17 games, 9.8 MPG, 3.2 PPG, 1.2 RPG, 0.4 SPG

Karima Christmas was traded recently from Tulsa to Indiana and since the move has seen action in two contests.  The 6’0 Guard/Forward is averaging 2.0 points, 0.5 steals and 0.5 assists with Indiana.  Although Christmas is finding her place with her new team, her contribution was needed in both of the two-point victories against the Sky and the Liberty. Christmas ranks first in steals per turnover (2.5) and third in steals per 40 minutes (3.4). The Indiana Fever will go against the Washington Mystics on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m.

Chante Black- Duke ‘09
Tulsa Shock, 6-5, Center
2012 Stats:
15 games, 12.8 MPG, 3.3 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 0.3 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.5 BPG

Recovering from jaw surgery, Chante Black has averaged 6.5 points and 3.0 rebounds over the last two contests.  In the Shock’s loss against the Lynx on July 10, Black netted seven points, three rebounds and one assist. She also scored six points, had three rebounds and one block on July 12 versus the Lynx.  In the WNBA rankings, Black ranks 18th in blocks per 40 minutes (1.5). The Tulsa Shock will face the San Antonio Silver Stars on Friday, August 17 at 8:00 p.m.

Krystal Thomas- Duke ‘11
Phoenix Mercury, 6-5, Center
2012 Stats:
14 games, 23.6 MPG, 6.2 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 0.6 APG, 1.0 BPG, 0.2 SPG

The Phoenix Mercury have been struggling the last three contests but Krystal Thomas has registered solid performances. Thomas has averaged 8.0 points, 1.3 blocks, 0.7 steals, 0.3 assists and 4.7 rebounds in the last three games. In the Mercury’s loss against Los Angeles Sparks, Thomas registered 11 points, two blocks, one steal, one assist and two rebounds on July 10. She has totaled double-figure scoring in two out of the last four games and started the last 10 contests at center.  Thomas ranks sixth in offensive rebounds per game (2.7), eighth in blocks per game (1.0), eighth in offensive rebounds per 40 minutes (4.6), 12th in blocks per 40 minutes (1.7), 13th in offensive rebounds (38.0), 15th in blocks (14.0), 18th in rebounds per game (5.9) and 19th in rebounds per 40 minutes (9.9). The Phoenix Mercury will head to Seattle to face the Storm on Thursday, August 16 at 10:00 p.m.
