GREENSBORO, N.C. – The All-ACC Freshman team was released on Tuesday by the ACC with Duke rookie Alexis Jones one of five student-athletes selected by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel, which consists of national and local media members, as well as school representatives.

Along with Jones on the All-ACC Freshman team were Nicole Boudreau (Boston College), Brittany Jackson (Georgia Tech), Chloe Pavlech (Maryland) and Xylina McDaniel (North Carolina).  McDaniel was also named the ACC Rookie of the Year.

Jones, a native of Irving, Texas, has averaged 8.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.9 steals on the season for the sixth-ranked Blue Devils (27-2 overall and 17-1 ACC).  The 5-8 guard has started all 29 contests for Duke and has turned up her play even more the last three games averaging 16.7 points, 6.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds. 

She is coming off being named ACC Rookie of the Week in each of the last two weeks and a total of three times this year.  Jones ranks 12th in the ACC in assists, tied for 11th in steals and tied for 11th in assist/turnover ratio (1.1).  In the Duke single-season freshman record books, Jones ranks tied for seventh in steals (54) and sixth in assists (100).  She became one of only six freshman in Duke history to notch 100 assists in a season – Wanisha Smith, Lindsey Harding, Alana Beard, Abby Waner and Robin Baker.

The ACC head coaches also voted on an All-Freshman team with Jones, Boudreau, Jackson, McDaniel and Malina Howard (Maryland) selected.  McDaniel earned Rookie of the Year as well.

Jones became the 19th Blue Devil to be named to the All-ACC Freshman team and marks the fifth straight year Duke has had at least one rookie on the squad.

Duke will open the ACC Tournament on Friday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m., against the winner of the No. 8 seed N.C. State versus the No. 9 seed Clemson game at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
