Alayne Rusnak joined the Duke Athletics Department in July 2007 serving as the Head Coach of Cheerleading and the Dancing Devils. While under her direction, the Duke Dancing Devils placed 8th in the nation at the 2008 NDA National Collegiate Dance Championships, climbed to 6th place in 2009, brought home an impressive 5th in 2010, and held steady top ten finishes in 2011 and 2012.

In January 2008, Rusnak expanded her role and joined the Sports Performance coaching staff assisting with Men’s Tennis and Men’s Golf. To kick off the fall season of 2009, she became the Assistant Sports Performance Coach for Wrestling, Men’s and Women’s Fencing, and Women’s Tennis. Rusnak had the pleasure of working with the Wrestling program through July of 2012, a program that produced a 2009 NCAA heavyweight finalist, a 2011 NCAA 184 pound quarter-finalist with All-ACC recognition, and a 141 pounder that garnered a true freshman bid for the 2012 NCAA Championships. While working with the Fencing program, she had the honor of training the 2009, 2011 and 2012 NCAA Women’s Saber Champion, a decorated 2-time bronze medalist in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She also had the privilege of working with the Women’s Tennis program when they landed 2009 and 2012 ACC Championship titles and secured the 2009 NCAA Championship title.

In May of 2012, Rusnak humbly welcomed a new addition to her repertoire, the opportunity to work as the Assistant Sports Performance Coach for the Women’s Basketball program. In the fall of 2012, she eagerly added to her role as the Assistant Sports Performance Coach for the Pole Vaulters.

Rusnak streamlined her role for the 2015-16 season with a sole focus on the Cheerleading program, of which she is the Head Coach and Choreographer. Her role comes full circle in that she also designs the strength & conditioning programs for both the Blue and White Squads.

Rusnak holds a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh where she graduated 8th in her class. She was a four-year member of the nationally ranked Pittsburgh Panthers Dance Team, which placed 5th in the nation at the 1998 NDA National Collegiate Dance Championships and 5th at the 2000 NCA National Collegiate Cheerleading Championships.

Prior to joining the Duke Athletics staff, Rusnak held a career in Civil Engineering for six years, managing construction projects in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Raleigh, N.C. While working as an engineer, she coached, choreographed and danced for NAFL and ABA dance teams. Rusnak, also a fitness dance competitor, was scouted by an agent and gained representation from R & L Model and Talent Management Inc. of New York, N.Y.

A member of the National Strength & Conditioning Association, she holds a dual certification of CPT and CSCS through the NSCA.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Rusnak resides in Raleigh.
