Along with Liston on the ballot includes Rachel Banham (Minnesota), Diamond DeShields (UNC), Stefanie Dolson (UConn), Bria Hartley (UConn), Jordan Hooper (Nebraska), Jewell Loyd (Notre Dame), Maggie Lucas (Penn State), Kayla McBride (Notre Dame), Tiffany Mitchell (South Carolina), Chiney Ogwumike (Stanford), Shoni Schimmel (Louisville), Odyssey Sims (Baylor), Breanna Stewart (UConn) and Alyssa Thomas (Maryland).
Liston, who is out of River Forest, Ill., has had a breakout season as a senior averaging 17.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists. The 6-1 guard leads the nation with a 50.0 three-point field goal percentage and is one three-pointer away from matching her own Duke single-season record of 80. Liston, a 2013-14 First Team All-ACC selection, has registered 15 games with 20 or more points this year to rank second in the ACC.
In the ACC stats, Liston ranks ninth in scoring, first in three-point field goal percentage, sixth in field goal percentage (54.7), fourth in free throw percentage (85.6) and fourth in three-point field goals made (2.6). In ACC games only, she ranks ninth in scoring (18.3), first in three-point field goal percentage (52.5), fifth in field goal percentage (53.7), eighth in free throw percentage (81.7) and tied fourth in three-point field goals made (2.6).
The Wooden Award All-America Team, consisting of the nation’s top five players, will be announced the week of the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament after voting by hundreds of media members from March 12 through 25. The Wooden Award is unique in that voters may take into account play through the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
The John R. Wooden Award Player of the Year will be announced as part of the 38th annual Wooden Award Gala presented by Wendy’s weekend April 10-12, 2014 at The Los Angeles Athletic Club. The event will honor the Men's and Women's Wooden Award winners, and will include the presentation of the Wooden Award All American Teams and the Legends of Coaching Award.
In the upcoming ACC Tournament, the Blue Devils will face either seventh-seeded Georgia Tech or 10th-seeded Virginia (14-16). The Cavaliers will face the Yellow Jackets (19-10) on Thursday, March 6 at 6:00 p.m.
