OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - Duke recorded season-best times in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four at the Cardinal Invitational Saturday and Sunday on Melton Lake.
Duke's varsity eight clocked sequentially faster times in all three races, culminating in a season-best mark of 6:41.48 in Sunday's race against reigning NCAA Champion Virginia. The Duke crew of Caroline Kiritsy (cox.), Emily Theys, Claire Vannelli, Grace Cassidy, Laura Sciarrino, Tara Dalton, Hannah Hewitt, Alex Stonehill and Katie Dukovich placed second in all three races.
Duke's second varsity eight notched nearly an eight-second improvement between races Saturday, finishing second with a time of 7:04.40 in the first race of the day and second again with a 6:56.20 mark in race two. The group's second finish Saturday was less than two seconds behind first-place finisher Louisville (6:54.60). That group, including Simone Pitre (cox.), Caroline Williams, Julie Rohde, Victoria Tsamis, Katie Burke, Allison Beattie, Nicole Antoine, Sophia Staal and Kaila Perez, broke seven minutes again on Sunday, clocking a 6:58.19 to finish behind Virginia (6:46.70).
In the varsity four, Sarah Baker, Mary Wilson, Rachel Wolsfelt, Dana Lerro and Sydney Johnson, placed second in their second race Saturday with a season-best time of 7:38.20.
Duke also won Saturday's second varsity four and third varsity four in the afternoon session, posting a time of 8:00.90 to glide past Louisville in the 2V4 and 8:12.10 to top Louisville again the 3V4. Rowing in the second varsity four were Ashleigh Anne McKinney, Emily Hyland, Patricia Kolman, Jeanette Llorens and Kathleen Lyons. In the third varsity four were Karolina Wadolowska, Kshipra Hemal, Altelisha Taylor, Sarah Mayo and Emi Marchetti.
