DURHAM, N.C. – For the second straight year, the Duke duo of Chelsea Gray and Elizabeth Williams were named Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Region 2 nominees for the 2013 WBCA Division I Coaches All-America team on Tuesday.  Of the 52 overall candidates from different regions, the selection committee will next select a 10-member All-America squad.

Other selections from Region 2 include Tyaunna Marshall (Georgia Tech), Elena Delle Donne (Delaware), Tianna Hawkins (Maryland), Alyssa Thomas (Maryland) and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt (UNC).  The 2013 WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team will be announced at 2:10 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, April 6 during the Women’s Final Four Super Saturday festivities in the New Orleans Arena.

Gray, who is out of Manteca, Calif., was having a standout season in 2012-13 prior to getting injured in the first half against Wake Forest on Sunday, Feb. 17.  She suffered a dislocated kneecap and will miss the rest of the season, after starting the first 25 contests.  Gray was averaging 13.1 points, 5.6 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals heading into game against the Demon Deacons.  She leads the ACC in assists and steals, while ranking fifth nationally in steals as well.

A product of Virginia Beach, Va., Williams is coming off being named to the All-ACC Tournament first team as the Blue Devils captured their eighth ACC Championship on March 10 with a victory over 15th-ranked North Carolina.  On the season, Williams has averaged 15.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals for fifth-ranked Duke.  The 6-3 center was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year as well as being named to the All-ACC First Team.

Duke (30-2, 17-1 ACC) has been seeded No. 2 in the Norfolk Region and will host No. 15 seeded Hampton on Sunday, March 24 at 12:05 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium.  In the other first round contest in Durham, N.C., seventh-seeded Oklahoma State will take on 10th-seeded DePaul.
